If Collin Morikawa finishes on top of the leaderboard this week at the 2024 Zozo Championship, he’ll become the first golfer to win this event in back-to-back years. Morikawa will have to stave off several serious contenders if he wants to rewrite the history books. Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas and Max Homa are among the experienced players looking to dethrone Morikawa and win the Zozo Championship 2024.
Play gets underway from Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Japan on Wednesday evening, with the first tee times scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET. Schauffele, who has secured two wins and 15 top-10 finishes in 2024, is going off as the +450 favorite (risk $100 to win $450) according to the latest 2024 Zozo Championship odds. He’s followed by Morikawa (+650), Matsuyama (+750) and Sungjae Im (+1400) on the PGA odds board. Before locking in your 2024 Zozo Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters — its third Masters in a row — and this year’s PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed its sports betting picks has seen massive returns on betting apps.
Now with the 2024 Zozo Championship field locked in, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2024 Zozo Championship predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Zozo Championship: Morikawa, the defending champion and one of the top favorites, fails to successfully defend his title in Japan. Morikawa’s last start on the PGA Tour was a runner-up finish at the Tour Championship at East Lake in September. However, the 27-year-old has never successfully defended a title on the PGA Tour and he’s been inconsistent with his iron play in 2024.
In fact, Morikawa enters this week’s event ranked 135th in greens in regulation percentage (65.04%), which doesn’t bode well for his chances to finish on top of the leaderboard. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the 2024 Zozo Championship field. See who else to fade here.
Another surprise: J.J. Spaun, a massive 50-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.
In order to score well this week, players will need to be extremely accurate with their approach shots and few do it better than Spaun. The 34-year-old is ranked 17th in strokes gained: approach to green (0.473) and 18th in greens in regulation percentage (70.56%). He’s also trending in the right direction, having finished T-9 or better in two of his last six starts on the PGA Tour. Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make him a strong value pick for your 2024 Zozo Championship bets. See who else to back here.
How to make 2024 Zozo Championship picks
The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 33-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model’s picks here.
