Neither holds the advantage entering Moving Day, but two men who have dominated PGA Tour signature events of late are near the top of the 2025 Genesis Invitational leaderboard as Saturday’s third round commences. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and World No. 3 Rory McIlroy are both within striking distance of Davis Thompson, who holds the 36-hole lead by one stroke over the former and three over the latter.
Scheffler began his PGA Tour season off to a rough start but turned his fortunes around Friday with a bogey-free 5-under 67. McIlroy matched that score despite a more up-and-down round, and both are now tussling with Thompson, Denny McCarthy, Ludvig Åberg and Patrick Rodgers among the top five at Torrey Pines Golf Club. There should be plenty of movement during the aptly named third day of competition, and all eyes will certainly be on the two superstars to see if they can battle for the top spot entering Sunday’s final 18 holes.
