What was billed as one of the most star-studded fields in the history of Augusta National Golf Club has already lived up to the hype and then some. Moving Day at the 2025 Masters begins Saturday morning with the top two players in the world sitting among the top five of the 36-hole leaderboard and many of the top 15 littered among the first and second page.
Perhaps none is more notable than Rory McIlroy, the four-time major champion who began his 11th season since capturing his last such event with eyes firmly focused on completing the career grand slam by capturing his first green jacket. After it appeared as if McIlroy had ejected late in the first round, he stormed toward the top of the leaderboard with as successful a nine-hole performance as anyone at the Masters this week. Rory ultimately posted a 66 to move from seven back of the leader, Justin Rose, to just two behind with 36 holes to play.
Rose continued making Masters history by posting another first-round lead, but he remained steady to remain on top entering the weekend. Bryson DeChambeau, the 2024 U.S. Open winner, sits between them with reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler slotting in T5 following an up-and-down second round. Scheffler hopes to be the first golfer since Tiger Woods to go back to back and the second ever to win three green jackets in a four-year span (Jack Nicklaus).
