Rowdy golf begets rowdy football on Sunday as the 2025 WM Phoenix Open wraps up just in time for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Whether either event will wind up with a close final score remains to be seen, but Thomas Detry certainly hopes that is not the case in Scottsdale, Arizona, as he takes a five-stroke lead into the final 18 holes.
The Belgian enters Sunday substantially ahead of his chasing pack with Jordan Spieth, Michael Kim, Daniel Berger and Rasmus Højgaard all hoping to move up the leaderboard and give Detry a run for his money. With dunked aces, flung beers and rowdy fans creating a raucous atmosphere, momentum can easily be gained or lost as PGA Tour players put their finishing touches on their 72 holes.
Should disaster strike for Detry, other chasers like Maverick McNealy (six back), Robert MacIntyre (seven) and Scottie Scheffler (eight) could suddenly jump into contention. Even if they do not, the final round at the Phoenix Open also serves as an important entree into the third signature event of the season with the Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational ahead this week.
