Veteran running back Austin Ekeler is set to return to the Commanders.
Multiple reports on Monday morning say that Ekeler is expected to sign with the team as long as he passes a physical. Ekeler tore his Achilles while playing for the Commanders last season, but has been cleared to return and he worked out for the Panthers recently.
The move to bring Ekeler back comes after Rachaad White suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s win over the Seahawks. Jeremy McNichols is already on injured reserve, which leaves the Commanders with Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Kaytron Allen as healthy backs on the 53-man roster.
Ekeler was injured in Week 2 last season. He had 77 carries for 367 yards and four touchdowns for Washington during the 2024 season.
