Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League comes to a close on Wednesday, when a handful of Europe’s top teams eye their second wins of the league phase.
Bayern Munich entered Matchday 2 atop the table and will take part in the headlining act of Wednesday’s action against Aston Villa, who will host their first Champions League match in four decades. Though they are the favorites, they might be without Harry Kane, who picked up an ankle injury in Saturday’s draw with Bayer Leverkusen and will have plenty of work to do when facing Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who has four goals and three assists so far this season.
Elsewhere in Europe, reigning champions Real Madrid travel to Lille with Kylian Mbappe in the squad after he missed Sunday’s draw at Atletico Madrid with a minor thigh injury. Liverpool, meanwhile, host their first European night since Arne Slot’s hire by taking on Bologna and Juventus go to RB Leipzig in another competitive match to wrap up Matchday 2.
