Denver struck first in this Wild Card Weekend matchup, as Bo Nix hit his former Oregon teammate Troy Franklin on a 43-yard touchdown on the fifth play from scrimmage. According to CBS Sports Research, it was the first rookie-to-rookie passing touchdown in NFL playoff history. Josh Allen responded accordingly, as Buffalo scored 10 straight points to steal the lead. Denver failed to tie the score right before halftime when Wil Lutz’s 50-yard field goal try hit the right upright. The Bills have been relying on the ground game in this matchup. James Cook rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown in the first two quarters, while Josh Allen picked up 35 yards on six runs.
