The NFL won’t let quarterback Brendan Sorsby join any of its teams in 2026.
The CFL won’t, either.
“Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL,” the CFL said in a statement issued to USA Today. “The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning.
“At this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list.”
Sorsby has shown no inclination to play in the CFL, which started its 2026 regular season on June 4. His primary options seem to be: (1) challenging the NFL’s decision as to the supplemental draft in court; and (2) accepting that he won’t be able to be drafted by an NFL team until April 2027.
The fact that no lawsuit has been filed since the NFL announced its decision on Tuesday strongly suggests that no lawsuit will be filed.
