Javonte Williams on new contract: Hard work paid off, now I have more to prove

After running back Javonte Williams went to Dallas on a one-year, $3.5 million contract last year, he gave the Cowboys more than their money’s worth, having the best season of his career with 252 carries for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns. That earned him a more lucrative contract, but Williams doesn’t think he’s arrived yet.

Williams said the three-year, $24 million contract he signed this offseason to remain in Dallas was gratifying, but it also motivated him even more to reward the Cowboys for their faith in him.

“It felt good,” Williams said, via the Dallas Morning News, “just knowing all my hard work paid off and I got a little bit of security. But I’ve still got a lot more to prove. I at least want to go to the Pro Bowl and definitely want to get to a Super Bowl with the team. Just working hard, grinding, and trying to be a better version of myself. That’s all I’m worried about.”

After more than doubling his annual salary, Williams is going to need some very big years in Dallas to prove he’s worth the salary cap space the Cowboys will be devoting to him.
