Nick Sirianni on Makai Lemon: Working like crazy to get him healthy

Eagles rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon was out of practice on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury and he has missed the rest of the week’s work as well.

Lemon also dealt with a hamstring injury this spring and head coach Nick Sirianni was asked at a Friday press conference whether he was recalibrating early expectations for the first-round pick because of the missed time. Sirianni said the only thing the team is concerned with right now is getting Lemon healthy enough to play.

“It’s just, right now, how do we get him healthy? How do we get him as healthy as we can and get him back rolling? He’s doing the things in the meeting rooms,” Sirianni said, via a transcript from the team. “He’s watching the walkthrough portions of it and being diligent there. This isn’t new. This happens, right? You’ve got guys that are out for some time, or an extended period of time, or a short period of time, and they’ve got to make sure that they’re doing the right things. Us as coaches, getting that extra meeting time with them as well when they miss some of the time on the field. Excited about him, and we’ll continue to work like crazy to get him back.”

DeVonta Smith has also been out with a hamstring issue this week. His experience means there’s less reason to be concerned about how ready he’ll be for the Commanders on September 13, but the Eagles will be better off when both wideouts are able to do more than observe during practices.
