Patriots kicker Andy Borregales got a lot of opportunities to make field goals on Thursday night, but he didn’t come through for his team often enough.
Borregales missed three of the five field goals he tried in a 13-13 tie. The missed kicks were from 56, 55 and 49 yards.
After the game, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked what message he had for the kicker in the wake of his rough night.
“I don’t have a message,” Vrabel said, via a transcript from the team. “We’re expected to make them. That’s pro football. They’re banging them in from 60 yards. They got two kickers on the roster, so Andy knows that we have to make those field goals.”
Borregales was 27-of-32 on field goals and 53-of-55 on extra points for the Patriots last season. Vrabel’s comments make it clear that he’ll need to be better the rest of the summer to assure himself of a chance to add to those totals.
