Lane Johnson: We’ll see 2024 Saquon Barkley again this year

The Eagles are acclimating themselves to a new offense this offseason and right tackle Lane Johnson thinks it is going to suit one of the team’s top players quite well.

Wednesday’s joint practice with the Patriots gave offensive coordinator Sean Mannion a chance to call plays for the starting offense and provided a glimpse into how the team will use running back Saquon Barkley. One of those uses will be as a receiver and Johnson believes that giving him the ball like that will provide an opportunity for Barkley to get back to the 2024 production that made him the league’s offensive player of the year.

“The more productive we are in the run game and stuff feeds off that, we’ll see the Saquon from two years ago,” Johnson said. “We’ll see the big plays, we’ll see him flexing out wide at wide receiver, we’ll see him in the screen game.”

Mannion’s scheme will be significant, obviously, but having Johnson and the rest of the offensive line healthy this year would also set the stage for Barkley to dominate defenses the way he did on his way to 2,283 yards from scrimmage in 2024. That season ended in a Super Bowl win and having everything come together offensively should make the Eagles a threat to repeat that feat as well.
