A new book, Accessory After The Fact, is coming

During the first year of the pandemic, after the draft ended and the NFL basically shut down, I had more free time than I’d had in years. So I started writing something other than the usual stream of NFL updates and analysis and whatever else landed on the PFT radar screen.

After I finished Father of Mine (the ebook is a mere 99 cents), I started on the sequel, Son of Mine (also 99 cents). When that one was finished, I started another. Then another. And another.

After doing the traditional publisher thing with Playmakers (nonfiction, but some would say it’s fiction in parts), I wanted to control everything about the process — the content, the cover, all of it. It’s now time to try a different approach.

The latest one, Accessory After The Fact, will be published next summer by Crooked Lane Books. It’s about a pro football player who goes to law school after his career ends, gets a job in a Pittsburgh firm, finds a former teammate who escaped from prison hiding in his house after the first day of work, and gets assigned to assist with a high-profile murder case the next morning.

It’s potentially the first book in a series, depending on whether anyone, you know, buys the first one. And there are seven or eight other books (I’ve lost count) that are generally ready to go.

Hopefully, one of the manuscripts already in the hopper will be the second in the two-book deal with Crooked Lane. If not, I’ll have to write another one. Because I will anyway. Finish one, start the next. Finish that one, start the next. After nearly a quarter century of updating PFT every single day, I can think fast and type fast and crank out a couple of books per year. (My wife has suggested that I spend a little more time focusing on quality, not quantity.)

You’ll be hearing more about Accessory After The Fact in the coming weeks. It will eventually be available for preorder, and I’ll come up with other ways to persuade you to give it a try.

Until then, Father of Mine, Son of Mine, On Our Way Home, and Big Shield are available in ebook form for less than a buck (or at no extra charge if you’ve subscribed to Kindle Unlimited).

I’ve also got another potential surprise in the hopper, which may coincide with the upcoming 25-year anniversary of the launch of PFT. That one will be completely and totally free, if I can figure out how to effectively pull it off.

For now, set aside some reading time next summer for Accessory After The Fact. It’s good. My editor at Crooked Lane, Sara Henry, has already made it a lot better. By the time it comes out, it should be in the best shape possible.
