Joe Flacco appears likely to make another start for the Colts as the season winds down.
Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters on Friday that starting quarterback Anthony Richardson is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Giants with back and foot injuries.
But Richardson did not practice all week, making it much more likely that Flacco will once again be behind center for Week 17.
“We’re going to see how the next 48 hours go,” Steichen said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.
Steichen noted that Richardson’s back is more of an issue than the foot and that the quarterback was “really sore” all week.
In his second season, Richardson has started 11 games, completing 48 percent of his passes for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 499 yards with six TDs.
Flacco started a pair of games earlier in the season due to a Richardson injury and then two more when Indianapolis benched Richardson. He’s 1-3 in the four starts, completing 66.5 percent of his passes across six appearances for 1,167 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
Steichen did not rule anyone out for Sunday’s matchup with linebacker E.J. Speed (knee) and tight end Mo-Alie Cox (toe) participating in Friday’s session. Receiver Alec Pierce (concussion) also has not yet cleared the protocol, but is trending toward playing.
