C.J. Stroud: It’s all about how we respond

If the last few days were a measuring stick for how the Texans compared to the top teams in the AFC, the results showed that they are not in the same class.

They followed up a 27-19 loss to the Chiefs last Saturday by getting humiliated at home by the Ravens on Christmas. Their offense didn’t score any points and their defense was no match for Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry in a 31-2 rout that ended with quarterback C.J. Stroud watching Davis Mills take garbage time snaps against Ravens backups.

The Texans did enough in their first 14 games to sew up the AFC South, so they know they will be hosting a playoff game in the Wild Card round and Stroud said on Wednesday that the key for the team now is to focus on how they can rebuild off of the disaster against the Ravens.

“It’s all about how you respond,” Stroud said. “You hit rock bottom. The only way is up. We still have a lot of hope. Got to finish this year the right way against Tennessee. Hopefully, by that time we’re in a groove and rolling when the playoffs come.”

Head coach DeMeco Ryans said that Wednesday’s performance is “not what we represent” and he’ll be tasked with finding a way to make sure the Texans show that on the field before suffering another loss that kicks off their offseason.
