Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward is 37 and entering his 16th season. He has shown no signs of a dropoff, playing all 17 games each of the past two seasons and earning first-team and second-team All-Pro honors respectively.
But Heyward knows the end his coming . . . and soon.
Heyward said on The Rich Eisen Show that either 2026 or 2027 will be his final season. His contract runs through 2027.
“I don’t think it’s it,” Heyward said, via Aaron Becker of steelersnow.com. “You’ve got to see how the body feels. I’ve got 17 games, hopefully more, in me. We’ll see how we do after this long playoff run we have. I don’t like to jump the gun, but I will say, if this is not my last year, next year will definitely be my last year, because, I have to say, we’re not signing anymore contracts after this.”
The Steelers drafted the heir apparent in 2025, using a first-round pick on Derrick Harmon.
Heyward still totaled 78 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and six passes defensed. Harmon recorded three sacks, five quarterback hits, 27 tackles and a pass defensed in 12 games with eight starts.
