Barcelona came from behind to beat Benfica in dramatic fashion on Tuesday in UEFA Champions League action, taking part in Matchday 7’s wildest game so far with a 5-4 win.
Benfica took a 3-1 lead before halftime thanks to Vangelis Pavlidis’s 30 minute hattrick, benefitting from multiple mistakes made by goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Benfica made a mistake of their own by gifting Raphinha a second half goal, and matters became worse for Barcelona with an own goal from Ronald Araujo. Two penalties scored by Robert Lewandowski and a late equalizer from Eric Garcia, though, paved the way for Raphinha’s stoppage time winner.
It was not the only dramatic result on Tuesday, with Atletico Madrid beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 courtesy of a 90th minute winner from Julian Alvarez. Liverpool also kept their perfect streak alive with a 2-1 win over Lille, and Bologna picked up their first Champions League win of the season with a 2-1 victory over struggling Borussia Dortmund.
