The EFL Cup final will be decided on Sunday as Liverpool and Newcastle United meet at Wembley Stadium on Paramount+ (with a star cam on CBS Sports Golazo Network). Things will look a little different for both teams with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Anthony Gordon unavailable but that doesn’t mean that they’re short on options to set their lineups.
Newcastle United look to end a long trophy drought having last won a trophy in 1955 while Liverpool have a chance to add to their record 10 trophies in this competition while also looking to go back-to-back after defeating Chelsea last campaign. With a growing lead in the Premier League, Liverpool are expected to lift that trophy at the end of the season but Newcastle will have a chance to stop the Reds from doing the double.
They have experience in this competition under Eddie Howe, making the final in the 2022-23 season, but the Magpies ultimately fell to Manchester United in an experience that could prove valuable. Liverpool will be stretched to their limits after playing 120 minutes midweek in the Champions League, falling to Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.
