The Chiefs turned to Joe Thuney at left tackle a couple of weeks ago and it looks like they will be doing the same in Cleveland on Sunday.
Reporters at the game have noted that Thuney is lined up at the spot during Kansas City’s pregame warmups. Mike Caliendo is in Thuney’s usual left guard spot.
That’s the same configuration the Chiefs used late in their Week 13 win over the Raiders when Thuney replaced Wanya Morris after Morris was beaten repeatedly during the game. Veteran D.J. Humphries started at the spot last week, but he hurt his hamstring in the win over the Chargers and is inactive this week.
Morris replaced Humphries in that game, but the Chiefs apparently don’t feel he’s up to the task of tangling with Browns star Myles Garrett on Sunday. If Thuney can’t do it, it could be a long afternoon for Patrick Mahomes.
