Myles Garrett missed a third consecutive day of practice, but Rams coach Sean McVay said the defensive end has lower body soreness and nothing of concern.
“Nothing to worry about, so we’re erring on the side of being smart with him,” McVay said, via video from the team. “Reggie [Scott, the team’s senior director of sports medicine and performance] and those guys do such a great job, and he is as tough as it gets. So, we want to make sure that he feels as good as possible. As you know, guys that have played a lot of football, we’ve got a lot of opportunities to be able to get better, but we also want to make sure we’re getting an understanding of how best to work with him. He’s been outstanding, but there was a little bit of soreness. We said, ‘Let’s err on the side of caution.’ Then, we’ll see. He won’t be on tomorrow either, and then we’ll see what it looks like after the day off. I don’t want to put the cart before the horse, but I would expect him to be ready to go in the next block.”
The Browns had an in-season practice plan for Garrett with built-in load management days off. It worked. Garrett played all 17 games each of the past two seasons and has missed only four games over the past six seasons.
McVay reiterated the Rams are unconcerned about their prized offseason acquisition, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
“We are erring on the side of caution,” McVay said. “He’s had checkups, all that kind of stuff, so there’s nothing to worry about. It’s more about how do we keep him as fresh as possible while getting the necessary callous, if you will, to feel as good as possible so that when we do play in Australia, he’s ready to play and do his thing.
“But there’s no reason for concern, and I look forward to getting him back out there.”
