PSG eliminate Liverpool from Champions League after shootout; Inter, Bayern Munich, Barcelona also advance

Barcelona, Bayern Munich Paris Saint-Germain and Inter have all booked their spots in the Champions League quarterfinals. PSG needed a penalty shootout and two saves from Gianluigi Donnarumma were enough to push them through to the quarters. It was level 1-1 on aggregate after regulation thanks to a goal from Ousmane Dembele but even with PSG being away from home at Anfield they didn’t have an issue with the pressure that they faced. From Vitinha’s stutter-step take to beat Alisson to Desire Doue’s eventual winning penalty it was a clinique in penalties form Luis Enrique’s team putting a dent in Liverpool’s magical season to date.

With Raphinha grabbing a brace and Lamine Yamal becoming the youngest player ever to score and assist in the same Champions League game at 17 years and 241 days old, all Hansi Flick needed was a half to put this tie out of reach. Barcelona is a contender to win the entire tournament and for good reason after their strong performance versus Benfica. Harry Kane became the first English player to score 10 goals in a Champions League season with a goal and an assist in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen while Inter took care of business in a 2-1 victory over Feyenoord.

Round of 16 scores

  • Barcelona 3, Benfica 1 (4-1)
  • Inter 2, Feyenoord 1 (4-1)
  • Leverkusen 0, Bayern Munich 2 (0-5)
  • Liverpool 0, PSG 1 (1-1, PSG on pens)
