The Cowboys picked up a new backup running back on Monday.
They have claimed Emari Demercado off of waivers from the Chiefs. The Cowboys cut Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah on Sunday, which left them with Malik Davis as the only back behind Javonte Williams on their depth chart.
Demercado signed with the Chiefs after spending his first three NFL seasons with the Cardinals. He ran 126 times for 819 yards and three touchdowns while catching 50 passes for 324 yards and a score.
Demercado’s most memorable carry with the Cardinals did not result in six points, however. He let go of the ball before crossing into the end zone in a Week 5 game against the Titans last season, which led to former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon getting in his face and making contact with him while yelling at him for the blunder. Gannon was fined $100,000 by the team in the wake of the incident.
