Texans sing the praises of “one of a kind” Derek Stingley after Sunday’s win

The Texans are AFC South champions again and cornerback Derek Stingley had a big hand in getting them the crown.

Stingley picked Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa off twice in the fourth quarter to protect a 20-12 lead and propel the Texans to their ninth win of the season. Both interceptions came on throws to wide receiver Tyreek Hill and the second one saw Stingley rip the ball from Hill’s hands to seal the win.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said “there’s not a better play I’ve seen” than the one Stingley made and quarterback C.J. Stroud was also effusive in his praise for the cornerback.

“‘Sting is one of a kind,” Stroud said, via the team’s website. “His ball skills and how he can play the ball in the air is the best I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Stingley also had two tackles for loss in the win and, per the Texans, is the first cornerback to have two picks and two tackles for loss in the same game. It’s production that the Texans are happy to have from a player who is breaking out in his third NFL season.
