Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette missed Friday night’s preseason game with what head coach Dave Canales described as a foot and ankle injury.
Legette had his ankle rolled up on in practice on Wednesday, and Canales said the Panthers don’t know definitively how much time he’ll miss.
“He got his ankle twisted up, he has some soreness in his foot, so we evaluated him,” Canales said. “Right now we’re going to get him back going little by little. Hopefully we’ll see him at the end of this week, but I can’t tell you exactly when he’ll be back, but we’ll just have to take it day by day and go with whatever is happening in his foot.”
The Panthers took Legette in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, and through two seasons he’s been a disappointment, with just 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 games. Legette acknowledged in June that he can’t have another year like he had last year. To have a better year, Legette needs to get healthy and stay healthy.
