Yankees vs. Angels prediction: Odds, recent stats, trends, and best bets for August 31

Fresh off a true smack of the rival Red Sox, the Yankees (78-59) open a three-game series in Anaheim against the Angels (52-85) tonight.

New York closed out a four-game series against Boston yesterday with one of its most dominant performances of the season. Yesterday, the Yankees crushed the Red Sox 16-1, recording their largest margin of victory of the year. Will Warren delivered seven strong innings and Austin Wells powered the offense with two home runs and five RBI. With the win yesterday, New York stayed within 4.5 games of the AL East-leading Rays of Tampa Bay and a whopping nine games up in the Wild Card chase. The Angels have lost seven in a row and own the worst record in the American League. The Phillies swept Mike Trout and co. over the weekend. Since going 13-14 in June, the Halos are 16-34.

Rookie right-hander Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz gets the start for the Yankees tonight. It will be his third since mid-May. Last Wednesday against Houston, the righthander allowed three runs over six innings. It was the first time in his career that Rodriguez finished the sixth inning. The Angels will counter with Walbert Urena (8-9, 2.94 ERA). Over his last five starts, the righthander has allowed 10 runs over 23 innings. His most recent outing – last Tuesday vs. Cleveland – was less than good. Urena allowed three runs over 3.2 innings in a loss to Cleveland. Neither starting pitcher has faced their opponent in their respective young careers.

Lets dive into tonight’s matchup and find a sweat or two.
