Jadeveon Clowney: Signing with the Texans was “a really easy decision”

Jadeveon Clowney says he feels like he’s back home after signing with the Texans.

Clowney, who arrived in Houston as the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft but left in 2019 and has played for six different teams since, re-signed with the Texans on Sunday and said he believes Houston is the perfect place for him.

“I felt like they got a good team and I can help contribute. It was a really easy decision,” Clowney told the Houston Chronicle. “It wasn’t about the money.”

The Texans traded Clowney to the Seahawks in 2019 and he played one year in Seattle. He then played one year with the Titans, two with the Browns, one with the Ravens, one with the Panthers and one with the Cowboys. And now he’s back where his NFL career began.

“I’ve grown up and learned the game a lot more since leaving,” Clowney said. “I feel like I can help the younger guys. I’ve learned how to lead and what it takes to get to a Super Bowl. I feel like I can help this team.”

Clowney has never played in a Super Bowl, but he thinks he can do it with the Texans, this season.

“I just know this team is good enough to go, and I can help,” Clowney said. “We’ve got to get to work and stay locked in.”

The 33-year-old Clowney is on the tail end of his career, but he had 8.5 sacks last season, and if he can make that kind of contribution to the pass rush in Houston, he can make an already good defense better.
