Dan Campbell: I’m not giving my challenge flag up to anybody

The NFL will allow head coaches to designate someone on their staff to initiate the process of challenging a call this season. Lions head coach Dan Campbell will not be partaking of that opportunity.

Campbell made clear that he and he alone will determine when to throw the red challenge flag.

“No, I’m not giving that flag up to anybody. No way,” Campbell said. “The buck stops with me anyway. I’m answering the questions, so why would I give it to somebody else, for me to answer for somebody else? It all comes to me anyway. So that’s it.”

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has also said he’ll keep the challenge flag, and that’s likely to be the decision from the overwhelming majority of head coaches. The buck stops with the head coach, and the challenge starts with the head coach.
