Bears expect Luther Burden to miss about a month, be ready for Week One

The Bears are optimistic that wide receiver Luther Burden can play in Week One against the Panthers.

Burden is expected to miss about a month after suffering a groin injury in practice on Saturday, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS. The Bears’ regular-season opener is a little more than a month away on September 13, which means if all goes according to plan, Burden will be on the field.

Last year Burden caught 47 passes as a rookie, finishing second among the Bears’ wide receivers in receptions behind D.J. Moore. This year Moore has been traded away, and the Bears want more from Burden. Bears head coach Ben Johnson recently praised Burden’s competitiveness and spoke as if he’s expecting a very big season from Burden in Year Two.

This groin injury will be a setback that keeps him off the practice field and out of the preseason, but shouldn’t keep him off the field when the season starts.
