Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer wants more consistency from right tackle Terence Steele.
“T-Steele’s got to play a little bit more consistent,” Schottenheimer said, via ESPN. “He has had a couple days where he’s been a little bit dropping his pads and getting edged a little bit. He needs to be better.”
That’s a blunt assessment, but Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams suggested that part of the issue could be that Steele is over-worked. Steele has started all 17 games the last three seasons and has played 99 percent of the Cowboys’ offensive snaps in that time.
“He and I had a good conversation about that this morning of how we continue to try to find consistency,” Adams said. “He’s a guy that’s going into Year 7, and he’s never going to ask for a day off. He’s never going to ask for a break. So we’re just searching for ways to help him and help him play at his best and most consistently.”
The 29-year-old Steele, who has been with the Cowboys since they signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020, is the oldest and most experienced member of the offensive line in Dallas. His coaches would like him to be the most consistent as well.
