Dolphins LB Jordyn Brooks: We have to have “us against the world” mentality

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks is an outlier on the 2026 Dolphins.

Brooks is the rare established veteran on a team that is stocked with young players trying to find a foothold in the NFL. That roster construction has made player development the main priority and has led many to predict that the Dolphins will finish at the bottom of the league when all is said and done this season.

During a Tuesday press conference, Brooks was asked if he feels that’s led the team to take on the mindset of an underdog.

“I don’t think we have a choice, honestly,” Brooks said. “I don’t think there’s one outlet on social media, anybody that’s got us picked to win anything. Not that it matters, but it’s just what it is. I don’t think any of our opponents respect us. So, 100 percent underdog mindset and I think that’s always the best position to be in. We’re going to carry that mindset into the season, have that ‘us against the world’ mentality and do our best to win football games.”

Some veterans would not want to be part of a rebuilding effort, but Brooks signed a three-year extension with the Dolphins in July and he’ll be tasked with helping the team become a more imposing opponent before that deal is up.
