In the World Cup final, it’s Spain over Argentina in extra time, 1-0

Well, it’s time to rip up the grass at MetLife Stadium.

Spain defeated Argentina in New Jersey on Sunday, 1-0, for the 2026 World Cup crown.

Spain dominated throughout the match, but Argentina kept Spain from scoring through 90 minutes of regulation. After losing Enzo Fernández to a red card after he got his second yellow card of the match in second-half stoppage time, Argentina got through the first half of extra time without giving up a goal despite being down a man.

Early in the second half of extra time, Nico Williams used a header while running toward the goal line to set up Ferran Torres for the only goal of the game.

Argentina still had a chance or two to send the game to penalty kicks. The best opportunity came when Giuliano Simeone had a clear shot at the goal but sent it high over the crossbar.

Spain get their first World Cup title since 2010, while also preventing Argentina from becoming the first back-to-back winner since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.

And that’s that for the World Cup. Just in time for American football training camps to open.
