Jets DL David Onyemata had core muscle surgery, is expected back this season

The Jets put starting defensive lineman David Onyemata on injured reserve this week and head coach Aaron Glenn shared an update on his outlook at a Wednesday press conference.

Glenn said that Onyemata had core muscle surgery after leaving Sunday’s overtime loss to the Packers. Glenn said that the team expects Onyemata to return later in the season.

The Jets signed Onyemata as a free agent this offseason. He played in 154 games for New Orleans and Atlanta before joining the AFC East club.

Glenn also announced that wide receiver Arian Smith will miss the rest of the season after having ACL surgery.
