Matt Miller’s serious car accident has sparked scrutiny over his business dealings

Last week’s shocking news that ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in the amputation of his left arm, along with other significant injuries, prompted an outpouring of support for him — both with words and, after his family created a GoFundMe effort, money.

The situation has had other ramifications.

Questions and criticism have surfaced, and intensified, on social media regarding Miller’s business dealings. Ben Koo and Brendon Kleen of Awful Announcing have posted a thorough and detailed look at a very delicate subject.

Miller has faced accusations regarding fantasy football leagues with winnings that didn’t result in payouts. Koo and Kleen spoke to at least seven individuals regarding their own experiences in fantasy leagues started by Miller. Per the report, Miller was the commissioner of 91 fantasy leagues during the 2025 season.

The allegations include claims that Miller charged for scouting lessons that were not provided. After the initial publication of the Awful Announcing report, a member of the media told the outlet “that he paid for $500 of scouting classes but only received one 30-minute lesson out of the ten he paid for,” and the lesson consisted of “very basic information on the role of a front office.”

There’s also a question as to whether the charities that were supposed to benefit from Miller’s various fantasy leagues actually received the money.

Awful Announcing contacted both ESPN and Miller for comment on various issues, but received no response.

In one respect, Miller deserves sympathy and space as he recovers from horrific injuries. In another respect, the news of the accident — and the GoFundMe effort that immediately caused some to question why ESPN isn’t helping Miller directly — has brought to a head long-simmering issues regarding Miller’s fantasy leagues, his scouting lessons, and his charitable endeavors.
