NFL Network has been unavailable to Comcast Xfinity throughout May and June, and as July begins, there’s been no indication that the standoff is going to end any time soon.
That there hasn’t been much of an outcry among NFL fans suggests that NFL Network’s programming during the offseason isn’t particularly compelling. But there will definitely be an outcry if the situation isn’t resolved by Week One: Xfinity subscribers will miss out on NFL RedZone Channel if a deal isn’t reached for the regular season.
Xfinity subscribers who turn on NFL Network get a message saying, “This channel is unavailable. Our contract with the owner of this channel has ended. As a result, the channel is currently unavailable through Xfinity.”
ESPN now runs NFL Network, and Xfinity puts the blame for the standoff on Disney and ESPN, saying they want to charge fees that are too much for Xfinity subscribers. Disney says it wanted to keep NFL Network on Xfinity while the sides negotiated a long-term deal and Xfinity took the channel down.
