Orioles vs. Red Sox prediction: Odds, recent stats, trends, and best bets for July 20

Two of the hottest teams in baseball open a three-game series tonight at Fenway Park as the Red Sox (50-48) welcome the Baltimore Orioles (49-51) to town.

Boston enters the matchup riding a franchise-best 13-game winning streak, while Baltimore arrives having won seven straight games and fresh off consecutive series sweeps. The season series between these teams is tied at three games apiece, adding even more importance to a matchup with significant Wild Card, if not suddenly AL East, implications.

The Red Sox finished off a sweep of AL East-leading Tampa Bay yesterday and have now gone a couple weeks since their last loss. Boston’s run differential is +40 over the course of their winning streak. The result, they are now just six games behind Tampa in the division. Of late, Baltimore has been nearly as impressive. The Orioles swept Houston this past weekend and have won seven consecutive games, going 7-3 in their last 10. Elite pitching has been the difference for the O’s with the staff posting a stellar 2.97 ERA over that span. Baltimore is now within eight games of first in the AL East and within two games of the final wild card spot.

Shane Baz takes the mound for Baltimore with a record of 4-9 with a 4.19 ERA. The right hander has recorded quality starts in three of his last five outings but is without a win since June 12. The right-hander has shown swing-and-miss stuff all season but run support and consistency have been issues. The Red Sox will counter with Payton Tolle who carries a record of 5-6 with an ERA of 3.11 to the bump. Tolle enters Monday with a full week of rest after the Red Sox shortened his July 12 outing for workload management purposes.
