Penei Sewell: Dan Campbell sets a standard, if you don’t meet it you’re not a Detroit Lion

Lions left tackle Penei Sewell says every player on the 90-man training camp roster understands exactly what is expected of anyone who’s going to be a Lion when the regular season starts.

Asked what head coach Dan Campbell emphasizes to the players, Sewell said Campbell lets everyone know there are high standards that have to be met if you want to be a member of this team.

“It’s the standard, in everything that you do, from the way it’s taught to the way it’s done, how it’s done, what, why, everything. There’s no gray area. It’s either you do or you don’t, and if you don’t then you’re not a Detroit Lion,” Sewell said.

Sewell has moved to the left side after previously playing right tackle, and he said the standard for himself is to play left tackle at the highest level from Day One.

“That’s the mindset, I have to be the best today, be the greatest today,” Sewell said.

Sewell was the Lions’ first draft pick during Campbell’s tenure as head coach, and the two of them are on the same page about setting high standards, for themselves and for the franchise.
