Report: Commanders LB Leo Chenal to have season-ending neck surgery

Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal was put on a stretcher and carted off the field during Sunday’s home win with a neck injury that will reportedly end his season.

Chenal could be seen moving his arms and legs as he was on his way out of the stadium, but multiple reports on Monday say that he needs surgery that will keep him off the field for the rest of the year. NFL reporter Jordan Schultz had the initial report about the surgery and reported that Chenal suffered a fracture in his neck.

The injury occurred when Chenal dropped his head to tackle Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson. He stayed down after the play and was surrounded by teammates as medical personnel responded to the situation.

Chenal signed with the Commanders this offseason after spending four years with the Chiefs. He had 18 tackles this season.
