Report: ESPN will address the online complaints about Matt Miller later

ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller announced on Friday that he’ll be placed on leave as he recovers from serious injuries suffered last month in an automobile accident. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the leave related only to Miller’s health situation, or to the online complaints regarding fantasy football leagues, paid scouting lessons, and charitable contributions that have prompted the Missouri Attorney General’s Office to open an investigation.

Sean Keely of Awful Announcing reports that Miller’s leave is a result of his medical condition. “When appropriate,” per the report, ESPN plans to “follow[] up” on the issues raised by the flurry of social-media complaints and the reporting from Awful Announcing regarding the situation.

It’s the right approach. For now, Miller’s focus should be on his health and his recovery. But the other issues shouldn’t be ignored or forgotten. There’s too much there to overlook — as evidenced by the investigation launched by the chief law enforcement officer in Missouri.

Miller’s recovery, based on the extent of the injuries he sustained, could be a long road. If/when he’s ready and able to get back to work, ESPN will explore the situation.

By then, the Missouri investigation may have compiled enough information to make it easier to get whatever answers ESPN may be looking for.
