The Packers’ struggles could be the Jets’ gain

As the football-following world began to come to terms with the possibility that the Packers could be very bad this year, Cowboys fans began to perk up.

Thanks to the Micah Parsons trade, the Cowboys hold Green Bay’s first-round pick in 2027. So, the worse the Packers do, the higher the 2027 first-round pick climbs.

But there’s an important caveat, which works to the benefit of the New York Jets.

The trade that sent defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to Dallas includes an important term as to the 2027 first-round pick the Jets received. It’s not necessarily the Cowboys’ pick. It’s the higher of the two picks the Cowboys will have.

Which means that, if the Packers bottom out (and the Cowboys don’t), the Jets get the Green Bay first-round pick in 2027.

The Jets, of course, failed to help themselves on Sunday, when they blew a 10-point lead to the Packers and mismanaged the late-game and overtime scenarios.

Still, it’s good news for the Jets. Especially since they also hold the Colts’ first-round pick for 2027 — and the Colts are 0-2.
