Vita Vea is not practicing at Bucs camp

Defensive tackle Vita Vea requested a trade this week, but he is at Buccaneers training camp for the first day of practice on Wednesday.

Vea is not taking part in the practice, however. Multiple reporters shared pictures of Vea on the practice field without a helmet while watching the rest of the team go through its workout.

Vea was also an observer at the team’s mandatory minicamp in the spring as part of his push for a new contract. That contract has not materialized, which led Vea to make his trade demand before training camp officially opened.

The eight-year veteran is set to make a base salary of $17 million in the final year of his current deal.
