C.J. Gardner-Johnson diagnosed with a calf strain

An MRI delivered good news to Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who was carted to the locker room with a right leg injury during Saturday’s practice. He was diagnosed with a lower calf strain, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Gardner-Johnson will miss practice time but has six weeks until the season opener.

The Bills signed Gardner-Johnson as a free agent this offseason.

Gardner-Johnson, 28, played three games for the Texans and 10 for the Bears last season. He totaled 66 tackles, three sacks, four passes defensed and two interceptions in his 13 games.

In his career, the seven-year veteran has recorded 370 tackles, 20 interceptions, 55 pass breakups and seven sacks.
