Dolphins offensive tackle Austin Jackson has been in Miami since he was the team’s first-round draft pick in 2020, which means Jeff Hafley is his third head coach. And Hafley’s training camp practices are reminding him of his first head coach.
Asked what practice was like after the Dolphins opened camp, Jackson said it reminded him of Brian Flores, the Dolphins’ head coach in Jackson’s first two seasons.
“It was fun. It was fun. It was kind of similar to how Brian Flores ran practices, very similar,” Jackson said. “We just got to team right away. Not as many seven-on-sevens, hardly any seven-on-sevens, really, with Flo I don’t remember any. Definitely, it was nice.”
Asked how Hafley’s approach differs from former coach Mike McDaniel, Jackson said he likes having the whole team together under Hafley.
“It was a little bit more reps, more team reps in practice, which is nice,” Jackson said. “Previous coach was a lot more segmented and very intentional on certain things.”
Since signing a three-year contract extension late in the 2023 season, Jackson has struggled with injuries, missing most of 2024 with a knee injury and most of 2025 with a toe injury. The most important thing for Jackson at training camp is that he’s healthy enough to be on the field.
