Hearing for Antonio Brown plea deal is postponed until October 28

Former NFL receiver Antonio Brown arrived to court on Wednesday, ready to strike a plea deal that would resolve an attempted murder charge with a no-contest plea to aggravated assault. That didn’t happen.

Via the Associated Press, the presiding judge was in the middle of a trial in a different case. She postponed the hearing until October 28.

“It’s a setback because it’s another month that my client has an ankle monitor on and doesn’t have closure, which everybody in this [case] wants,” Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said after the hearing was postponed. He remains “cautiously optimistic” that the judge will sign off on the agreement that results in no jail time for Brown.

Brown faced up to 30 years in prison, if convicted of attempted murder.

The May 2025 incident happened at a celebrity boxing match in Miami. Brown claims he was attacked, and that he fired shots at one of the assailants in self defense. He has been relying on the Florida “Stand Your Ground” law to justify his actions.

Eiglarsh said the offer from the prosecution was too good to ignore, given that it also stipulates that Brown won’t be regarded as a convicted felon, despite pleading no contest to a felony.
