Yankees vs. White Sox prediction: Odds, recent stats, trends, and best bets for July 27

The Yankees (59-46) and the White Sox (55-49) open a 4-game series tonight in the Windy City. New York takes the field following a successful weekend in the City of Brotherly Love that saw them take two of three against the Phillies while the Sox are looking to bounce back after losing two of three games against Houston in Chicago. The Yankees send Max Fried (4-3, 2.97 ERA) against the White Sox’s Noah Schultz (3–7, 6.04 ERA) to open this series between probable postseason teams. Chicago sits atop the AL Central by 2.5 games over the Guardians and the Yankees sit three games in back of the Rays in the AL East but atop the Wild Card standings by six games.

New York’s pitching was elite the first two games of their series in Philadelphia but failed then yesterday in an 11-4 loss to the Phillies. Will Warren lasted but three innings allowing six earned runs to take the loss for the Yankees. Ben Rice smacked his 31st home run of the season in the loss. The bats woke up for the Sox yesterday against Houston. Led by Munetaka Murakami’s two home runs and six runs batted in, Chicago blasted the Astros, 12-3. Erick Fedde allowed three runs in 4.1 innings, but five Sox relievers combined to shut out Houston the rest of the afternoon to secure the finale of the series.

Max Fried takes the ball for the Yankees tonight in his second start since returning from an extended stay on the injured list. His first start in a couple of months was last Wednesday against the Pirates. He was lights out throwing five innings of one hit, shutout ball while striking out seven. Noah Schultz has not been as dominant for the Sox. He has made four starts in July and allowed 13 runs in 18 innings. The Yankees’ have struggled at the plate for the better part of this season but Schultz may be the perfect tonic for the pinstripes.

The White Sox have been exceptional at Rate Field this season posting a mark of 32-19. They are 6-4 in their last ten games with a run differential of +19. The Yankees are one of the top road teams in baseball with a record of 33-23. They’ve also gone 6-4 in their last ten games but their run differential is -5.
